Who are you and what do you do?
1. My name is Tatyana and I am a Creative Visual Artist. I create and produce fashion accessories such as apparel and jewelry. I am a self taught graphic designer and jewelry maker. I would describe myself as an Afrocentric Queen with a free spirit who loves my culture and represents it well. Black Eccentric Queen is an artistic expression in celebration of black excellence to note the undeniable importance of Black culture. My brand is constructed to bring awareness of who we are and to instill black pride.
What inspired you to start your business?
Black Eccentric Queen started with my obsession with black history and the systematic oppression of people of color. My purpose is to uplift the spirit, spread truth, love, and knowledge through symbolism. I was inspired to start my business from lack of resources and knowing I could spread my talent far more than a 9-5. I sat in my room and created things out of boredom and depression. To keep my mind busy I would design, and I later realized I could start a business and monetize off my creations. Black Eccentric Queen was a positive escape for me that gave me a feeling of euphoria that no other job ever gave me.

What's the most rewarding part of entrepreneurship?
The most rewarding part is receiving praise and seeing happy customers. I also love to see my customers wear the unique merchandise that I made. Sometimes it’s still a shock to see people wear my merchandise it gives me joy and & sense of accomplishment Knowing that I had the courage to finally share my art with the world. Having a socially conscious brand where I can use my platform to spread positivity is a gift within itself.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I want people to see my business as more than art but as an outlet where the black community can come together in solidarity. I see my business leveling up to the top. My goal is to expand and create more businesses similar to Black Eccentric Queen.

How do you juggle a 9-5 and a business?
This is the most challenging part trying to grind on your own and working a 9-5. Every bit of free time I have I use it wisely by creating. I believe that work does not stop when you get home you have to work on your dreams as well. As a entrepreneur, you’re constantly learning. After work, I take the time out to solely focus on Black Eccentric Queen. This time is used to make new products and study how to improve my business. I go into what I call grind mode where I’m so deep in the zone that I ignore any distractions. Staying organized has helped me stay on task and disciplined on my entrepreneurial journey. Planning and following through is essential to a growing business.
Whats some advice you would give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
The best advice I can give to aspiring entrepreneurs is to stay true to your craft. If there is something you’re really good at make a plan and make it come to life. I am learning that the key to a successful business is consistency. Never give up. Go hard for your business because if you don’t who else will? If you have an idea and you think it’s dope no matter how silly it may seem go for it. Life is too short to not go after what you want. A dream is only a dream if there is no action behind it. Manifest all your ideas int o the universe and it will grow. Always believe in yourself.
